Christmas jumper day at Morgans

As we did last year, we’ve decided to take part in the national Christmas Jumper day, to support Caring Together in Woodhouse and Little London.

XMAS3

As we did last year, we’ve decided to take part in the national Christmas Jumper day, to support Caring Together in Woodhouse and Little London. Caring Together is a Neighbourhood Network scheme operating primarily in a culturally diverse inner-city area of Leeds. Their aim is to combat isolation and disadvantage among older people, by working to empower individuals and groups within the areas of Woodhouse and Little London, to become more involved as valued members of their communities.

The charity provides support and activities for older people living in the area and operates on a membership basis with full participation of local people from involvement on Management Committee through to decision-making in how the various social and therapeutic groups operate.

Let's Get Started

New to Leeds 2017: Your A-Z guide

You might have noticed, Leeds has been a bit busy in 2017. And we don’t know about you, but we’ve found it hard to keep up with all the new places and spaces that have opened in the city centre this year.

From fancy restaurants and bars, to shops, hotels, events and just general ‘stuff’ happening in our amazing city, we’ve come up with a handy A-Z guide to the new additions that have made Leeds such a great place to be in 2017.

They are specific to this year only, and mainly in or around the city centre – otherwise this would be a really, really long list. We’ll probably, definitely have missed some – so let us know!

What do you think is missing from D and E?

Doghouse Bar and Record Store
The new sister bar to 212 Café opened on Kirkgate this summer, selling a huge collection of dance and hip-hop vinyl, as well as indie artists and designers putting on monthly pop-up shops and exhibitions.

9[2]

The Dakota Hotel
A new £20m hotel has opened in the old stacker car park of Bond Court. 10 storeys of 90 deluxe rooms.

10[1]

The Domino Club
A new jazz bar from the owners of Call Lane favourite Roland’s, that you have to access through a barbers in Grand Arcade.  Drink creative cocktails in the dark whilst you sit back and listen to live jazz, funk, soul and blues.

East 59th

Bringing a bit of hipster New York to the rooftop of Victoria Gate, East 59th is a bar based around the central-Manhattan namesake known for its chic, trendy cocktail bars and proximity to 5th Avenue.

Here’s C…can you think of any more?

Cantina[1]

Leeds’ first 100% vegan café opened in The Old Red Bus Station on Vicar Lane earlier in the year, and the ever-growing vegan community of Leeds and beyond love it. Vegan or not, the inventive food makes it well worth a visit.

Carnival[1]

In 1967, Leeds Carnival was the first of its kind in Europe to feature all three essential Caribbean carnival elements of masquerade, music and a parade. This year marked its 50th anniversary and was the biggest and best yet.

Chida_Cantina[1]

It’s the new Sandinista – Chida Cantina is a pretty similar vibe to what it was before, without the Spanish bit; more focused on being a relaxed Mexican eatery with good drinks and atmosphere, just with a new look. The kitchen is run by Mexican street food stars, The Holy Mountain, so it’s a good place to eat tacos and drink tequila, basically.

Cosy_Club[1]

Billed as a ‘home from home’, the Cosy Club bars are known for their colourful interiors and all-day menus, spanning brunch, sandwiches, burgers, tapas and comfort food classics.

Art, art and more art

Leeds Art Gallery reopened in October after a huge refurb. It’s a brighter experience, after re-discovering a secret barrel-vaulted glazed ceiling during the renovations. There’s also new exhibition spaces and artwork looking back over 130 years.

The Bluebird Bakery

Adding to Kirkgate Market, Bluebird opened in February and its ‘real bread’ (renowned in its York and Malton branches), made using a long-fermentation method and local ingredients, is a hit with us Leeds folk. There’s cakes, pastries and savouries too.

2[1]

Bengal Brasserie
The very first Bengal Brasserie in Leeds city centre opened on Merrion Way in spring, just over the road from First Direct Arena – which makes it the perfect before or after gig venue for a delicious Indian and Bengali curry.

Morgans Christmas Party

As the end of the year approaches, what better way to kick off the celebrations than a Morgans Christmas party!?

Following on from the past 13 years, our Christmas party was held at Harvey Nichols fourth floor restaurant, with 100+ guests, including our full team and our long-standing clients to celebrate another great year at Morgans.

The Morgans team gathered slightly earlier this year to introduce a new end-of-year company awards scheme between the entire team. Categories included Biggest Smile, Perfect Attendance, Colleague of the Year, Team of the Year and the Director’s Award, all paired with a Harvey Nichol’s bottle of champagne and a Morgans medal!

Once the awards were given out we enjoyed the company of our guests, the canapés and drinks provided by Harvey Nichols and a Christmas carol singalong.
